Which is wild in retrospect because holy shit they smell SO strongly.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What would be interesting to bring to a home made pizza party?
3·1 day agoYeah, oven make some bacon and it’s great to crumble on pizza for something like this. Could make chicken for the same idea too!
I mean the AI that grifters currently push. Not the slippery slope definition of “is a lightbulb AI” :D
It is, which is only 2,500 Calories (like, the ones on food)
It’s a crappy system where kcal and Calories are the same thing even though they sound like they are off by a factor of 1000
But like, that’s only further automation, not “AI” and certainly not AI in its current form.
Maybe it’s pedantry but like it’s got nothing to do with machine learning. I want it too, but not with the grifters pushing AI lol
Totally! And I agree with that.
I just don’t subscribe to the grifters pushing AI on us.
I just wanna say that while I agree with the sentiment of the post, AI has nothing to do with this.
We’ve had dishwashers and laundry machines that are super efficient and effective for many years. A lot of those chores are being done for you by automation.
LLMs have much fewer practical applications

Technology@lemmy.world•Long-time iOS user considering switch to Android - Need advice on $1000 flagshipsEnglish
12·5 days agoNot sure where you’re located, but if you’re in the EU you can consider Fairphone for an extremely repairable phone instead. The 6 doesn’t have the specs of proper flagships, but it’s quite a step in the ethical direction in my opinion.

World News@lemmy.world•Why Americans trying to hide as Canadians overseas doesn’t workEnglish
11·10 days agoI’m an American who lives in Europe now, and it’s pretty rare that people don’t understand that I condemn what the US is doing now. A few people who have no idea who have some brain dead hot takes, but for the most part it’s met with understanding
The steel soul is getting 100% without dying once. 35 hours for 100% is pretty doable with a route planned and some practice IMO
I don’t think the Speedrun is close to as hard as the steel soul 100% one

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think the average Lemmy user is further left than the average reddit user?

Big In Bruges energy
I thought Bruges was super fucking cool, but I love the idea of hating on it like the movie does

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What technologies were ubiquitous ten years ago and are much less common now?
21·21 days agoHeadphone jacks. They certainly still exist but every device I owned that made sounds had one in 2015, no longer the case

Technology@lemmy.world•New Rules Could Force Tesla to Redesign Its Door Handles. That’s Harder Than It SoundsEnglish
1·22 days agoYeah, I actually frequented a sim center when I lived in the US. They ran Rfactor2 but it got me doing some iRacing too. It was great fun! I can’t believe how real a lot of it felt. Honestly except for elevation not translating well it was an insane practice tool
Yeah, only IRL for a bike. If they made a really legit sim rig I’d probably have to seriously consider it!

2·23 days agoAh cool! After i raced irl for like a decade I sim raced for a while. It was super fun! I’d like to get back into it someday. It’s a lot better on the wallet and body than IRL stuff (especially motorcycles).
I think it helps, but it probably is more of a selling point and aesthetic than an actual help on the (agreed) biggest selling point number.
It’s one of those decisions that someone up top probably made and has these kinds of stupid consequences of moving fast and breaking shit. I wouldn’t be upset if it had to go to a normal one

151·23 days agoSource on that? Hobbiest aerodynamics nerd and big into F1 (and did a lot of liquid system design engineering in a previous job). Genuinely curious!
My gut feel is that a half kilo of unsprung weight (those ridiculous wheels), tighter fenders, or a bit of tail teardropping would go so much further than anything door-handle-wise. It’s certainly helping promote flow attachment, but you’ve got poor flow rates there because of the wing mirrors anyway

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who have permanently moved to another country, what gave you the opportunity and was it worth it?
10·25 days agoNo EU passport for me sadly, just a visa. If I could get one I super would want to.
We is my partner and I. Very much a team effort.
great question. I think giving yourself some grace has been a hard but helpful part. Like you will probably not have the bandwidth for keeping the house as clean, the working out, the self improvement, etc etc. Just even giving myself extra time to go to the store and extra space to make boring or meh meals has helped.
Beyond that, all the stuff you’d expect. Putting yourself out there. Listening. Money never hurts (and can help fix certain problems). Friends (from afar and close) are huge.
I began volunteering shortly after arriving and it helped make me a friend circle. I love hanging with them and already can’t wait for Thanksgiving here!
