scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever watched a movie or tv show on a mobile device, or otherwise a low-end/low-quality display? What is your current display + sound setup for watching content?English2·4 hours agoThe smallest screen I was willing to watch a movie or series on was my old 10" Lenovo netbook. I absolutely will not watch a movie on a phone screen. Right now I’m pretty happy with my 65" 4k TV. I’ll probably upgrade to a 75" (or 80"?) when I have extra funds because we do love watching movies and shows. As for movie theaters, post-pandemic I only go if it’s a movie worth seeing in IMAX or Dolby. I’m fortunate that there is a true IMAX theater in my city. If not, I wait for it to be available to watch at home.

You don’t need to physically go to an office to get a sense of community. Working remotely makes it easier to get a sense of community if there are third spaces because you’re not stuck in a building for 8 hours. If your only source of community is your workplace, then you have other problems.

scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was it like to re-enter "corporate" after an extended time away from working?3·2 days agoSame. I earn decent money but can probably get way more elsewhere, yet I’m sticking around because I’m in a pretty good spot with my work-life balance and my manager is great. I hope he sticks around as long as I’m employed there.

+1. Not tight and stuffy while providing enough containment.
scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Who is an actor you can't stand, but everyone likes?10·3 days agoPeople liked Batfleck because he was the closest to comic Batman looks-wise. Tall, physically imposing, square jaw, rugged, etc. He was also the best part of the Snyder movies and that’s a low bar. His version was also an older, disillusioned Bruce/Batman which is why he was more prick-ish.

scytale@lemmy.zipto World News@lemmy.world•Police: Air India survivor leapt from crashing planeEnglish15·4 days agoRight, I understand he was in the best position. But if you see the videos, it crashed within 32 seconds of liftoff, and there wasn’t really indication other than it stalled at the same very low altitude until it quickly went down, unless it was obvious inside (i.e. oxygen masks deployed, etc.).
If he managed to open the emergency door and jump out within that time span, that is some very very quick timing and reflexes.
scytale@lemmy.zipto World News@lemmy.world•Police: Air India survivor leapt from crashing planeEnglish21·4 days agoWait, how? Based on what I’ve seen (might no longer be the case as with ongoing investigations), the plane crashed literally within seconds of getting airborne. How was he able to 1. Know the plane was gonna crash, and 2. Be quick enough to unbuckle, open the emergency door, and jump within seconds?
scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•All right music fans, what's your favorite band/musician and how many times have you seen them live?English12·4 days agoHard to pick just one so I’ll list a few:
- Thank You Scientist - 2x
- Haken - 3x
- Porcupine Tree - 1x
- King Crimson - BEAT lineup 2x, 3 drummer lineup 1x
- Tesseract - 1x
- Meshuggah - 1x

Bundled apps perhaps? And maybe central management? And maybe centralized or cloud-based storage and content management?
scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When do you finally calm down after buying a house?English4·6 days agoJust got past 1 year ownership of a new build and had the 1-year warranty inspection done and worked with the builder to do the repairs. I think it has only started to calm down now, as we’ve finally experienced one year of living in the house and we now know what to expect throughout the year. Except for emergencies and major unexpected issues of course.
I would definitely jam in a band with three of my other selves. We’ll be able to make music pretty quickly because we literally have the same minds.
scytale@lemmy.zipto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I hate Samsung and their dumb software design choices, and this is one of them. Why do I need a SIM card to enable a hotspot whereas every other phone works without one?English3·8 days agoI really hate how mobile hotspot is considered separate from regular data. It’s the same especially if your mobile speeds are are capped anyway. It’s like dental not being included in your health insurance as if your teeth aren’t part of your body.
scytale@lemmy.zipto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What communities or instances do you have blocked to make your Lemmy experience more enjoyable?42·8 days agoI don’t have any. I instead subscribe to as many communities I find interesting and set my feed to only my subscriptions. I rarely venture out to All and only do when I want to discover more communities.
I use a thick pillow to hug and a folded blanket for my head. The blanket’s thickness can be customized to fit. The real problem is in hotels were both pillows are usually huge, so it’s literally a pain in the neck.
Don’t step on the clutch with just your toes or the ball of your foot. Push down with the entire length of your foot. It’s easier to control it that way because you’ll be lifting/depressing the pedal with your knee movement instead of ankle.
Also, don’t ride the clutch, even if you think you’re just resting your foot over it lightly. That still puts pressure on the pedal. Rest your foot on the dead pedal when not shifting.
Don’t rest your hand on the shifter (applies to automatics too).
Use engine braking to your advantage.
