This is such a weird hill to die on. You’re defending a site known to have CP, that’s very weird.

I don’t really care about motherless. It’s just a simple principle regarding censorship and overreach and I don’t understand why you respond with such a kneejerk reaction? Bans like this should have a proper basis behind them, regardless of what site it is.

Your argument is reddit and 4chan hosted questionable material and they banned the site. Wouldn’t that mean, by your logic, that we would also want to ban it because if we’re supposed to be better than them, then we would want to ban something they deemed as worse than them.

My argument is that all those mentioned sites are known to have been a host for such material. Now the question is why we treat one site differently than others, despite evidently there not being much of a case against any of them at least in their current state. So yes, if all those mentioned sites host such material, and that is the basis for this ban, then all of those sites should be banned along with motherless. Also, I cannot really verify with what exact reasoning & evidence 4chan & Reddit banned it or who did it first. If they just said they host CSAM and gave an equally flimsy reason for that as you did, then there would be now just 3 sites that banned another site while citing each other? So what’s next? A fourth site doing the same, on the sole basis of the other 3 doing it but without further proof that there’s actually a CSAM issue there (at least one that’s not generally worse than all the other mentioned sites)? Do you not see how that is a problem?

Also, if there was a direct link to someone’s social media with personal identifying information that was not consensual it would get removed. So yes Facebook and places are not 100% in the clear either.

That wasn’t really the topic though? It was about alleged CSAM being hosted there, primarily based on your .pdf report, which also listed all those other sites along with it. Yet, only one of them gets this treatment? I simply do not understand how this line is drawn at this site specifically.

4chan and reddit would not ban the site on baseless allegations

Reddit is well known for unreasonable bans of users & communities. Their CEO itself was once moderator of /r/jailbait. Reddit as well as 4chan are generally known for such content too.

It’s explicitly listed in the Office of Justice’s docs about sites known to be used to distribute csam.

I assume this means you also ban Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Reddit links? Or are only “smaller sites” ban worthy?

I’ve been on that site before. They’re certainly more lax with their content & titles but I have never seen any obvious CSAM / minors there. At best you’d see teens where it would be hard to tell if they’re above or below 18 years old. The only time I stumbled on obvious CSAM material is all the way back in the early days of the www & filesharing where assholes would intentionally rename those videos to something like popular movie titles or other files & change the file ending. Luckily it wasn’t that monitored back then so my mom didn’t got any unwanted visits or letters but this was truly a minefield back then.

So what’s the basis of the alleged lack of moderation of CSAM on Motherless then?

The duality of the Fediverse. On one hand getting accused of being a toxic troll that’s banned everywhere for being against murder, terrorism, genocide & rape, and on the other hand I’m part of “the echo chamber”. Make it make sense.

What in the Zensursula are you people doing?! I feel like I’m the only person on this planet who never accidentally stumbled upon CSAM on any website, including on Motherless.

I’m curious if that fixes the issue I was facing. FSR2 (and 1 for that matter) basically did nothing for performance, or even reduces it when enabled. FSR3 on the other hand often gives me like up to 40 additional FPS in some games, but of course not all games have FSR3.

I still see the same old issue of a lot of Proton games degrading in FPS when you change graphic settings though, requiring a restart of the game to properly test and optimize them. No idea if that’s an AMD or Proton specific issue though.

Eroding / taking away user agency. It’s always little bits they chip away but over the time those chips amount to a huge cut off edge of things you cannot do anymore, or only through very convoluted and potentially breaking third party tweaks & tools. Every Windows installation ended up with a growing shit-list of things to do. Disable this, tweak that, download tool X, Y & Z just to further disable & tweak shit, and whoop-de-doo several hours have already passed when you’re finally “done”. Then, in the middle of doing shit, Windows update! “No! Go away!” 10 minutes later… “Hey, I think you forgot about me?” - “NO, I UPDATE WHEN I SHUT THE DAMN PC DOWN, NOT IN THE MIDDLE OF THINGS! GO AWAY!” … “BUT HAVE YOU HEAR ABOUT OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, THE WINDOWS UPDATE?! OH AND BY THE WAY, WE RE-ENABLED OUR SPYING OPTIONS AGAIN AND WILL SEND ALL THE UNSENT DATA BEFORE YOU CAN DISABLE IT AGAIN!”

At some point I just realized that using Windows became more of a hassle than using Linux. And when you finally do the switch, you suddenly realize how fucking awesome it is that your OS is not constantly nagging you, not constantly spying on you, not constantly fighting you, not constantly changing its configuration to re-enable the things you purposefully disabled. I finally have an operating system again that does what I want it to do, a system that respects my privacy, as well as me as a user.

They had some issues with their downloader in the past but that thing has been canned a long time ago. It’s not a great site but it isn’t malware.

I hope you’re aware the West isn’t just the US (or worse, that republicans are in control of the entire West), and neither are the information related to this leak just about the US.

The West should just adopt the same tactics for Russian social media channels (VK, Telegram, etc), regular civilian groups if the state does not want to resort to it. Feed Russia some of their own medicine.

Oh I agree. I typically put “AI” in quotation marks when using that term regarding LLMs, because to me they simply are not intelligent in anyway. In my mind an AI would need an actual level of consciousness of sorts, the ability to form actual thoughts and learn things freely based on whatever senses it has. But AI is a term that’s good for marketing as well as fear mongering, which we see a lot of in current news cycles and on social media. The problem is that most people do not even understand the basic principles of how LLMs work, which lead to a lot of misconceptions about its uses & misuses and what we should do about it. Weirdly enough this makes LLMs both completely overhyped as a product and completely stigmatized as some nefarious tool as well. But I guess it fits into our today’s societies that kinda seem to have lost all nuance and reason.

The biggest joke is that the LLM in Windows is running locally, it uses your hardware and not some big external server farm. But you can bet your ass that they still use it to data harvest the shit out of you.
