That’s the people who use vi to view a file. Watched a guy almost get fired when he shared his screen during an audit and had ‘sudo vi /etc/shadow’ right there in the command window. Auditor saw it and called him on it. He swore that he was only viewing the file to look for a user’s id, but the auditor didn’t care, because he could have modified it either on purpose or by accident.

FigMcLargeHuge@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your last “impulse buy” and was it worth it?English5·20 days agoThat’s it. I got a 25 model, but it looks basically the same. They tweaked some internals from 24 to 25, but that’s the bike. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I jumped on it. Definitely my largest impulse buy ever. I figure my friends all think I am having a mid life crisis, but it’s just a dream bike of mine that I never would have fathomed I would have a snowballs chance in hell of owning.

But the thing like I said is just how smooth it is in the delivery and execution. The shifts are smooth and effortless, and the throttle is just smooth. You can dial in the power you want with different settings, so you can tone it down for things like riding in the rain. It’s so much different than my 01, which was just raw power and no electronic goodies other than fuel injection. I love having both, and have a ton of miles on the 01 which I am looking forward to matching with the new bike.

He sends me a pic of a bike they just got in. A CBR1000RR-RSP. Well after putting on my boots and asking him if it’s for sale, they said they would sell it to me. The person who ordered it had to back out so if I could make it down there it was mine. I hopped on my 2001 CBR and headed to the store where I bought the bike. And to answer the question, YES it was definitely worth it. That motorcycle is the absolute hands down smoothest machine I have ever been on. It’s like riding a stick of butter down a teflon pan. I still can’t believe I own one as I honestly never even thought I would ever even see one in the wild.

For a week or two he had been on liquids only. We all sat down at the lunch room table to eat every day as a routine. Most of the company was family so they were all mostly related as brother, sister, etc. So said co-worker proudly exclaims that this will be his first time eating solid foods in weeks. It turned out to be two cans of vienna sausage. So about halfway through the meal he opens up the two cans, and then stares at them. Then he calls out to his brother sitting across the table and lifts the two cans up, and says “What do you make of this?” One can of vienna sausages was visibly lighter than the other can. I immediately interrupted with “That’s an easy one.” Pointing to one of the cans I continued with “That one is lips, and that one is assholes.” We were all rolling on the floor laughing except for denture guy. He was so pissed off he just threw out the two cans and walked out. I have never had another moment like that where the joke just came to me in real time. It was a wonderful moment that I will cherish always.

What am I missing?English1·1 year agoI see your edit, and would like to comment that you also haven’t mentioned which rpi you were going to try this on. I recently wanted to set up a quick little pc using a rpi, just so I could browse the web and maybe watch some videos. Tried a rpi2 I had laying around. No way. Moved to a rpi3, and while it would load most pages, youtube was a bust as it completely maxed out the ram and swap. I then went to a rpi4 with 8gb and it has been doable, kind of. Sometimes it’s pretty choppy with the video, but basic web browsing is ok. I did try my plex the other day through the browser and it was barely acceptable. Lots of stuttering and sometimes just hangs, but that’s not the ideal way to view plex on anything. Haven’t tried my rpi5 yet, but my point to all this is that I think you are on the right track setting it up on a spare pc he has. If you had given him a rpi as a ‘desktop’ replacement it might have just soured him on the whole idea.

I have the freedom to not sign some dumbass agreement with tesla and not purchase a shitty looking cyber truck, and I will use that very freedom. No one is being forced to take this deal.
Exactly, or grep would have worked. Dude just was used to doing this and picked the exact wrong moment to have it on his screen. He earned a finding with that one.
