Correct. The issue in this specific comment thread is not that AI is hard to discern. That is a discussion for a different thread. The discussion here is that people are being lazy and using AI as an excuse to dismiss stuff instead of using rational thought and attempting to solve the answer for themselves.

    As said.

I don’t have enough crayons to keep explaining this.

Hell no. I post ‘Not OC’ because one user decided to have a screaming meltdown about how I was misleading people by uploading stuff and not saying ‘Not OC’. I’m already babysitting enough people on Lemmy. The ‘Oh this is AI’ people can deal with having their stupidity repeatedly called out to their face and deal with my frustration that they don’t have enough brain cells to scoop together the ability to type tineye.com into the address bar.

You said not real kitties and then explained how it wasn’t. Pretty sure that was an accusation.

Moreover, you said unnecessary defensiveness. It’s necessary. Everytime there’s an accusation about something being AI, the comment gets upvoted until someone points out how it isn’t. Everytime an accusation is made about me posting AI is another time that I’ve got to defend myself later from someone saying that Stamets uploads AI slop. I have enough accusations made about me for no reason, posting AI isn’t another one I need to have following me around everywhere.

Which is a problem to deal with when it arises. What exhausts me is having to say “No it isn’t AI, it’s real, you just forgot about basic photography. Also stop wasting my time with these accusations that will have people like a mob downvoting something and losing their mind when using tineye for 5 seconds would answer your question.”

I had shit removed from @Pics@lemmy.world because the mod over there saw two accusations of an image being AI and removed it and refused blatant proof of it being a photo from it being from multiple angles with the same “errors”. It’s why I stopped posting there entirely and went to nocontextpics. When the mods are jumping on the bandwagon then it isn’t a place I want to be associated with.

I’m going to start ripping my own hair out of my fucking scalp. It’s like every post I make now has an accusation of AI because of real world photography not always making 100% sense.

    This is AI though right?

    No

    Not real kitties.

    Real kitties.

The white and black blur in between the cats is clearly trying to be a tail but the color and placement are wrong.

Could also be a dog or another cat that’s behind the two. That blur is on another stair and these two are much closer to the camera, can easily obscure something behind them.

The pile in the top right doesn’t make sense

It’s blurry as hell. You have no idea what that is. You called it a ‘pile’. That could also be flaking off concrete or vines. Saying that it “doesn’t make sense” when you have so little information on what it is is not the immediate assumption you should be making. If you’re dismissing things because of an assumption made on a lack of information then it’s not helpful to anyone.

the stairs leading to a square door set at an angle from the stairs is wrong

Once again, perspective. This is at the bottom of a set of stairs looking up. You would not be able to see the landing at the top that would continue into that door. Moreover, pretty sure that door is a gate for the gap to the right of it. The white is the same as the railing.

and the building to the left of that makes no sense either.

    You literally can’t see it.

Plus the overly rich texture of the stairs

Jesus christ. Concrete just looks like that sometimes.

What I would really like is for people to bother going to look for an original source before making these accusations. You think an AI two years ago was able to make that image with no blatant errors in the cats themselves? Especially when no one else in the post is making that accusation? And especially when the same poster made another post of AI cats and it looked like this?

These accusations are exhausting. Firstly because they’re just accusations with zero follow up. It took me 10 seconds to find the original post of that image. Why couldn’t you have done that yourself? Secondly because it scares the hell out of me that things we’ve known about since the dawn of photography are being forgotten about en masse for the easy way of pointing and saying “AI.”

I love the Brosnan movies but they’re not particularly good. Was just my entry point to Bond and I want to fuck the shit out of the man so that helps. Roger Moore though… my favorite. And both of those Bonds made some of the worst Bond movies but they also had the suave down for me like no one else did.

I agree that something looks off about the image, and it’s definitely enhanced in some way,

But it isn’t. That’s what is completely baffling about these accusations. They’re often made from a misunderstanding of the source material and an assumption that it must then be edited in some regard.

It isn’t touched up. This is just a flat image of a baby seal. Seal skin has a weird quality to it that makes it look slightly blurry and incredibly soft. I would know considering they sell seal pelts at the grocery store here where I’m from. Combine that with a touch of motion blur from the seal moving and at first look it might look odd but taking a closer look that disappears. Even the eyes one might go “Bit cartoony” but then you zoom in and realize the blue is reflection from the scrubs everyone has around them.

This is simply just a picture. No editing was done. I weep for humanity when we’re incapable of saying “I don’t know” or “I wonder why” and just default to “it is definitely enhanced”.

    Moonraker.

    Your argument is invalid.

Being shit is sort of part of Bond tradition

Edit: This comment was meant to be jokey but re-reading it, that tone isn’t really achieved.

My point was just that Bond movies have a series of being all over the place. I mean we have gotten a lot of insane bullshit in the past. And while the original movies were more ‘serious’, they also had way more camp and fun than the Craig ones do. I love the Craig ones for what they are but they’re a very gritty take on Bond. I just hope it doesn’t become the default.

And this is why I’m not bothered by Amazon taking it over.

James Bond has always been bizarre with tone. Each Bond is different. As long as they’re not as Bourne-y as Craig’s then I’ll be fine. But them stealing bonds quips and gadgets and women… The fuck? You made British Jason Bourne with more trauma and less of an ability to cope with it.
