In my sector it’s just incompetence. Bosses are under the illusion that being able to see the workers in and out makes them better at managing their hours (false) and that being able to physically reach someone makes the communication more efficient (also false)

They also generally come from a place of justified distrust of modern day mass (and sometimes even specialized) media, which makes it harder to reason with them.
Much of the problem is the false assumption that their dumb internet forums and influencers aren’t being manipulative as well, by different and more ruthless actors… Yeah, dude, the government does shady stuff and manipulates people and narratives, but Andrew Tate telling you to cheat on your wife while exposing your kids to polio isn’t better is it?

There’s stuff considered “gay” that differ between western countries, too, or between generations.
There’s a famous clip of Kobe slapping Steph Curry’s ass as a “nice shot” kind of gesture… That wouldn’t fly in Brazil where I live. Older guys famously walked around naked in locker rooms, too, and as far as I can tell that is mega weird nowadays.

The main reason why I use open source is precisely because I don’t need or want to worry about this crap. The software is as much property of humanity as it is of the creator, it is basically just knowledge
