its part of why they paint public university in my country as this leftist dystopia.

we just get to mingle with all kinds of people from all kinds of social backgrounds, instead of just urban middle class people.

naturally we, on average, leave it less racist less classist and more compassionate towards social issues. therefore BAD.

Maybe it’s not safe. They might just react like sodium and water, who could tell?

see? this is what i mean! there are whole oceans made of sodium and water! if you knew some basic chemistry, you’d at least know that… jeez!

(this is a joke. i feel compelled to state very clearly that this is a joke)

There are no oceans made of sodium and water. There couldn’t even be because sodium and water would react to NaOH and H3O+. There are oceans of water and sodium chlorate because smart people are made from chlorine…

unless on a scholarship, foreign students pay the highest rate of tuition, which is a win for the US, since either you get the brightest or you get the $$$

That takes brains, understanding of simple economics, and not being a racist douchbag to get though.

Way beyond Trump & Goons abilities.

From what I remember seeing, international education in the US is considered an export since the money is coming in typical from their parents bank account. If you consider all fees and cost of living for a student they add a lot to the local economy where they go to school.

Many of them also stick around after they graduate and get productive jobs in the US. You’re effectively skimming intelligent, hard working, educated workers from other countries. There’s literally no downside if you’re not a racist fuckwit.

The US doesn’t want the brightest, apparently. They’re even doing their best to push their own students out of the country

If it’s all J visas this could also impact (though given it’s already May maybe not too much ) the seasonal student exchange programmes eg summer work in theme parks/summer camps.

TBH as an American I’d love more non US posts.

My hope is that Lemmy gets exponentially more non-US users as our country becomes a Big Tech hellscape, so that I can lurk on here as the “outsider”
